THE UST Chorus of Arts and Letters (AB Chorale) secured a back-to-back championship and bagged three of the four special awards in this year’s Himig Tomasino held Saturday.

The choir took the championship after garnering a score of 93.21 points. It also took home a P40,000 prize, along with awards for Best Interpretation (of the set piece), Best Conductor, and Best Costume Apparel.

AB Chorale president Camille Barsolaso said the choir did not expect to win this year’s competition, underscoring the difficulty in maintaining the championship.

Mas madaling mag-progress pataas kaysa i-maintain ‘yung championship so hindi talaga kami nag-expect ng kahit ano,” Barsolaso said.

She added that AB Chorale only eyed to perform its pieces well. “This year nga ang motto lang namin is ‘aim for kagandahan and kalinisan.’ […] Kuntento na kami basta ma-perform lang namin nang maayos ‘yung pieces and mabigyan namin ng justice ‘yung kagandahan ng pieces na kinuha namin.”

The chorale performed the contest piece titled “Laudate Dominum” which was composed by Asst. Prof. Fidel Calalan Jr., and its choice piece “Dies Irae” by Ken Steven.

The Pharmacy Glee Club grabbed the second place (92.78 points) with a prize of P30,000 while the Science Glee Club snagged third place (88.28 points) with a prize of P20,000.

Himig Tomasino was organized by the Student Organization Coordinating Council and was held at the Medicine Auditorium. F
