THE UST Central Student Council (CSC) will host this year’s UST Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Congress onsite to involve students in addressing various global issues.

The event themed “Silakbo ng Dunong at Gamlay” will be held on March 23, 8 a.m., at the UST Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati Building.

Long-standing international problems on achieving good health and well-being (SDG 3), quality education (SDG 4), reduced inequalities (SDG 10), and peace and strong justice institutions (SDG 16) will be discussed during the event.

Aside from educating students on the SDGs, the event will allow students to create their own projects benefiting the University on a “[microscale] or macroscale level.” The projects to be selected will be implemented within the next term. The proposed projects will be presented through a debate and will undergo a screening process by a panel of judges.

The discussion of the SDGs will be led by Department of Education (DepEd) Youth Affairs and Special Concerns assistant secretary Dexter Galban, DepEd senior technical associate Jann Romeo Nacar, National Anti-Poverty Commission Persons with Disabilities Sectoral Council member Maureen Ava Mata, and Southeast Asia in the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime representative Dexter Yang.

The project seeks to uphold the students’ democratic rights and welfare by effectively engaging students in “social transformation” through face-to-face interactions with experts and fellow students following the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. F – Zoe Airabelle Aguinaldo
