The Absurd Hero

photo by ANA BARBARA S. SAN DIEGO

Unlike Sisyphus, rolling his boulder assures that there is something better.

It is a step-by-step process that promises few progress. He trudges the narrow path to the top of the hill with a deep sense of purpose. His muscles ache, and the boulder often threatens to overpower him. But like Sisyphus, he has long seen life’s lack of meaning. He has long understood the absurdity of it all and yet, he still chooses to keep on rolling his boulder, sending it to the top of the hill even if it rolls back to the ground.

Like Sisyphus, he rolls his boulder every single day. He imagines himself to be happy in spite of it. CORHEINNE JOYCE B. COLENDRES
