PEOPLE MAY leave and physical things may not last but departures in life do not always bring sadness. Instead these challenge people to become stronger.
Litterateurs from the Faculty of Arts and Letters gathered to share their stories once again as the Flame launched this year’s edition of Dapitan, its official literary folio, with the theme Paglisan.
Literature senior Patrick Danque won the Best Poetry award with his piece titled Through the Airplane Window while Literature junior Leanne Claire Bellen bagged the Best in Prose award for The Woman Inside.
Winning Pinakamahusay na Tula was Journalism alumnus Karlo Oropesa for g=9.81m/s^2 while Journalism junior Benjamin Gutierrez received the Pinakamahusay na Katha for El Niño.
Alyssa Arizabal and Arsenio Padilla III bagged the Best Art and Best Photo award, respectively.
Dapitan guest literary editor Prof. Dawn Nicole Marfil sees the literary folio’s theme as something that is equalizing to death. “It doesn’t care how young or old you are, how rich or poor, who you voted for in an election, who you choose to love, or whether you graduated on time. We all will, at some point, experience a kind of departure.”
“The pieces in this edition of Dapitan are all in mini triumphs over life because no matter how many departures life throws at us, writers, the writing will always prevail and the writer lives through all these departures,” Marfil added.
