THE FACULTY of Arts and Letters (AB) Men’s Basketball Team survived the Faculty of Engineering and secured its first victory, 82-71, in this year’s Thomasian Goodwill Games held Tuesday at the P.Noval Court.

Paul Lopez led the Dapitan-based squad with 23 points, while his tandem, Van Garrido, tallied 19 points.

Engineering maintained its pace in the third quarter after snatching the lead from AB in the previous frame, 46-59.

Still determined to log its first win, AB showed resilience and took the lead back in the last quarter with a three-point shot from Garrido, 67-66.

AB continued to fire a series of three-point shots and lay-ups from the combined efforts of Lopez, Garrido, Nicko Bahia, and Kiko Banal but JP Vibandor gave the game’s last shot, 82-71.

“Our team was more composed than them (Engineering) yesterday. I think the whole AB team played really well. The crowd really fired me up. Even though AB was outnumbered yesterday, they never stopped cheering for us,” Lopez told the Flame in an online exchange.

“We sacrificed a lot for this league, especially Coach Louie Vigil, and Coach Jamil Sheriff. We’re blessed to have them as our coaches,” he added.

AB will face the College of Science on Monday at P.Noval Court. F
