FOURTEEN ARTLETS showcased their original compositions of songs and poems on Wednesday during a virtual ‘open mic’ event as part of the Arts and Letters’ (AB) freshmen festivities.
Organized by the Artlets Student Council (ABSC), “Sincerely, Artlets: Open Mic” was intended to promote the Artlets’ creative talents as the Faculty welcomes the new breed of Artlets, ABSC Secretary Kim Dacanay told The Flame.
“Through “Sincerely, Artlets,” we encourage Artlets to step out of their comfort zones and join the Thomasian-Artlet community in celebrating their talents,” Dacanay said.
Communication and philosophy freshmen Matt Saez and Sofia Cabarroguis performed their songs titled “Matalik na Kaibigan,” and “Acronym” and “Baunan,” respectively.
“Gusto ko tanggalin natin sa sarili natin ‘yung word na hiya [kasi] ito talaga ‘yung pinakamabigat na kalaban pagdating sa pagbuga ng ating mga talento,” Saez told the Artlets.
Journalism freshman Alexandria Carlos dedicated her song “Hello, Dear Kent” to her special someone named Kent whom she referred to as “internet love.”
Meanwhile, journalism freshman Hyacinth Villanueva recited her poem “F.R.I.E.N.D.S” which reminisced friendship memories while Behavioral Science freshman Alesha Lubrio performs “Digmaan,” a poem about appreciating one’s self-worth amid the darkening battles of life.
Freshmen from Creative Writing Jonas Dollesin and Ysa Villegas performed their spoken word “Sa Pagitan ng Kawalan,” a poem written by Nicole Camarista about writers who have lost their creative spark in writing, with their characters stuck on a blank page.
Moreover, communication major Stefano Acosta and journalism sophomores Jasmine Manuel and Jianzen Deananeas performed their songs “Cali,” “Liwanag,” and “Aswang,” respectively.
Legal Management junior Celine Arevalo emphasized social injustices and police violence in her poem “Isang sulat para sa nakaratay kong bayan.”
Creative Writing senior Marcelino Quiambao and irregular student Lea Enoy also staged their songs “Para Sa’yo” and “Pwede Na” during the event.
“Sincerely, Artlets: Open Mic” was hosted by communication students George Matthew Medallion and Louise Elaine Legazpi and was done in partnership with The Flame. F
