Will Artificial Intelligence (AI) deepen the digital and social divide? What steps need to be taken to integrate AI in media and communication education in the Philippines? Will AI contribute to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals? A distinguished panel of experts will tackle these and other burning questions in a hybrid international symposium on June 28, 2023, Wednesday, at 12 noon online via Zoom Webinar and onsite at the PSSC Auditorium on Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.
Headlining the international symposium is Mr. Joe Hironaka, advisor for Communication and Information at the UNESCO Multicultural Regional Office in Bangkok, Thailand, and Ms. Jean Linis-Dinco, a PhD Cybersecurity Student at the University of New South Wales in Canberra, Australia. Completing the panel are Mr. Dominic Ligot, founder and chief technology officer of social impact technology company CirroLytix and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, and Prof. Maria Mercedes T. Rodrigo, Ph.D. of the Department of Information Systems and Computer Science of Ateneo de Manila University and head of the Ateneo Laboratory for the Learning Sciences.
Broadcast journalist Ms. Kara David, chair of the Department of Journalism of University of the Philippines Diliman College of Mass Communication, will moderate the symposium titled “EXPLORING THE POSSIBILITIES: The Future of AI in Communication and Media Education.”
The June 28, 2023 webinar is the fourth of a series of discussions on the impact of AI on media and communication organized by the Philippines Communication Society (PCS) and TVUP, the University of the Philippines’ Internet TV Network, dubbed “AI, naku! Understanding the Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Media and Communication Education.”
PCS President Dr. Elena E. Pernia will deliver the welcome remarks, while Prof. Christian Samonte, member of the PCS Board of Trustees, will deliver the synthesis and closing remarks.
