
THE NATIONAL Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) will hold a lecture-forum in UST to discuss research competency development from each of its technical divisions.
The NRCP Division of Humanities has partnered with the Faculty of Arts and Letters for its Capability Advancement through Scientific Capacity Development (CASCaDe) project, which aims to strengthen skills and promote collaboration among scholars in the humanities.
Operating under the Department of Science and Technology, the NRCP is the scientific advisory body of the Philippine government and is responsible for promoting research in the country.
Discussing the humanities research landscape will be the section heads within the NCRP Humanities Division, namely Prof. Carlos Piocos III of the Literature section; Asst. Prof. Demetrio Alcaraz, Jr. of the Fine Arts, Architecture and Design Section; and Asst. Prof. Renato Lucas of the Performing Arts Section.
The keynote lecture, “Decolonizing Monuments: The Peculiar Case of the Philippines,” will be delivered by Lila Ramos Shahan, an expert member of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).
Established in 1965, the ICOMOS is a non-governmental organization focused on the conservation of monuments and cultural heritage worldwide.
The forum will feature UST research center directors Anton Rennesland for culture, arts and humanities; Prof. Joel Sagut for theology, religious studies and ethics; and Asst. Prof. Katrina Topacio, for social sciences and education, to provide the perspective of research administrators.
Also attending the event will be NRCP president Ma. Louise De Las Peñas and executive director Bernardo Sepeda.
NRCP Humanities Division chairperson Prof. Joyce Arriola, who also heads the UST Department of Communication, and vice chairperson Charlie Veric will also deliver addresses during the event.
Research grants will be tackled by UST Conservatory of Music Dean Ma. Alexandra Chua and Jose Buenconsejo Jr of the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman College of Music.
Ma. Milagros Laurel of the UP Diliman Department of English and Comparative Literature, and Director of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines Research Institute for Culture and Languages Joseph Viray will also speak in the forum.
