FIFTEEN PROFESSORS from the Faculty of Arts and Letters were recognized for their loyalty and contributions to the University in the 19th Dangal ng UST Awards held May 10.
Literature professor Augusto Antonio Aguila received the Gawad San Alberto Magno Award for the Malikhaing Gawain category for his short story collection titled Carnival of Hate: Stories.
Paul Castillo, National Service Training Program facilitator under AB, received the Gawad San Lorenzo Ruiz award in recognition for placing third in Talaang Ginto: Makata ng Taon 2017 given by the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino.
Asst. Prof. Virginia Sembrano from the English department received the Gawad Benavides, an award recognizing professors who have served the University from 25 to 40 years. Sembrano has been teaching for 40 years.
Assoc. Prof. Rosario Aranda from the English department, Assoc. Prof. Anita Garcia from the Interdisciplinary Studies department, Asst. Prof. Emelita Samala from the History department and Sociology chairperson Asst. Prof. Josephine Placido also received the Gawad Benavides for their 35 years of teaching.
Department of Interdisciplinary Studies chairperson Assoc. Prof. Lino Baron was recognized for his 30 years of service.
Recipients of the Gawad Benavides for 20 years were Aguila, Asst. Prof. Edelberto Bunquin from the Economics department, Asst. Prof. Jean Celino from the English department, Asst. Prof. Zenaida de Luna from the History department, and Asst. Prof. Alain Jomarie Santos from the Interdisciplinary Studies department.
Rector Fr. Herminio Dagohoy O.P. commended the event’s theme Ang Gurong Tomasino: Puspos ng Biyaya, Hatid ay Pagpapala.
“Hindi kinikimkim ang biyaya. Hindi ito tinatago sa buslo o binabaon sa lupa. […] Dakila ang tawag sa isang taong puspos ng biyaya at inihahatid ito o ibinibigay sa iba,”
