UST still PH’s 4th best school in 2024 EduRank rankings

THE UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas still ranked fourth among 229 Philippine institutions in the 2024 EduRank world university rankings.

UST placed 2,652 overall out of 14,131 global institutions in the independent metric-based ranking published in February 2024.

The country’s top-performing school was University of the Philippines Diliman (1,367th), followed by De La Salle University Manila (1,752nd) and Ateneo de Manila University (1,931st).

UST outperformed University of the Philippines Los Baños (2,761st), University of the Philippines Manila (2,927th), University of San Carlos (4,230th), Asian Institute of Management (4,667th), Mapúa University (4,696th) and 219 other Philippine institutions.

The institutions were assessed based on their research performance (45%), non-academic prominence (45%) and notable alumni score (10%).

The España campus ranked 263rd among 7,738 universities for the alumni impact category, which totals the number of Wikipedia page views of a university’s graduates and affiliated individuals; and 3,968th out of 14,131 schools in terms of non-academic prominence or the reputation of a university based on backlinks to its web page from other sites.

UST was also in the top 50% across 32 research disciplines, publishing a total of 3,187 scientific papers across all programs with 33,748 citations overall.

The University’s biology program had the highest number of contributions in terms of the number of publications (1,935) and citations (25,898), followed by medicine (1,820 publications and 25,574 citations) and liberal arts and social sciences (1,771 publications and 13,576 citations).

Other leading UST programs that made it to the country’s top 10 based on their research outputs were psychology (third), mathematics (fourth), arts and design (fourth), business (fourth), chemistry (fifth), environmental science (sixth), engineering (seventh), economics (seventh), computer science (seventh) and physics (seventh).

Harvard University emerged as the top world university. It was followed by Stanford University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, Cornell University and University of California – Berkeley, all in the United States. F
