Journalism instructor, alumna named directors of global communicators network

TWO ALUMNI of the UST Faculty of Arts and Letters have been appointed to the regional and global boards of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), a network supporting marketing communication leaders worldwide.

Journalism instructor Kane Errol Choa will assume the role of regional director representing the Asia Pacific (APAC) until July 2025. He is the third Filipino to be designated to the IABC international executive board.

“I am honored to join and serve on the IABC international executive board, contributing to the advancement and deepening the global communications profession and supporting communication professionals as they navigate the challenges of today’s fast-evolving world,” Choa told The Flame.

Meanwhile, Lynda Corpuz, who finished her Journalism degree in UST in 2002, was named brand and communications director of the IABC APAC.

A UST Communications graduate from batch 1994, Choa is a past chair of the global association for the Asia Pacific region and adviser for the IABC Philippines. He earned his master’s degree in Communication at the Ateneo de Manila University in 2004 and Media Communication at the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2005.

The journalism instructor is the vice president for corporate communications of ABS-CBN Corporation, his employer for over a decade. He is a recipient of multiple awards from the IABC, namely the Gold Quill, Silver Quill and Philippine Quill Awards, which recognize outstanding performances in the communications field.

Choa, an entertainment columnist for The Philippine Star, is also a member of various public relations and broadcasting groups, namely the International Public Relations Association, Public Relations Society of the Philippines and Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas Standards Authority.

Corpuz has served as senior communications manager of American healthcare company Optum since last year.

She worked as editorial assistant and business desk editor of The Manila Times and Rappler, respectively, before becoming editor-in-chief of Entrepreneur.com.ph, a California-based business magazine, in 2016. She also assumed management and consultant roles in notable companies, including Google, business process outsourcing provider Afni Philippines Inc. and Malaysian universal bank Maybank, among other companies.

In 2006, Corpuz won an award for best story at the UPS Parcel Services, Inc.

The IABC was founded in 1970 to support communication professionals through education, awards and annual conferences attended by entrepreneurs all over the world. F
