THE UST Tiger Radio did not bring home top awards at the 2024 International Student Broadcasting Championship (ISBC), but four of its members won runner-up prizes in the competition.

The University’s official e-radio broadcasting arm failed to replicate its success last year when it emerged as the best across six categories.

It also did not recapture the Station of the Year title, but four of its representatives were named runners-up in their respective categories during the awarding ceremony last Nov. 22.

Tiger Radio senior announcer George Matthew Medallon said the people behind the Thomasian broadcasting arm would produce more exciting shows to improve the station considering that the competition has “grown stronger.”

“There were more participating universities, and there were also new categories if I’m not mistaken… All I can say is that TR (Tiger Radio) will surely bring more to the airwaves next year, of course with more diverse topics, fun guesting, and improved events,” Medallon told The Flame.

“I can say we had more entries this year and we made sure that our entries this year were something that would represent Tiger Radio well in the international platform,” he added.

Medallon, a Communication senior, won runner-up in the Best Talk Presenter category. Also given a runner-up prize were Communication students Coleen Jeanelle Hufanda and Karl Isaac Alvero for Best Program or Content Director and People’s Choice Talent, respectively. Medical Technology sophomore Francesca Avyn Mangulabnan also won runner-up for Best Voiceover.

Meanwhile, five Tiger Radio representatives were named finalists in various categories: Mylferd Joshua Supnet for Best On-Air Talent, Sharella Mae Anadi for Best On-Air Team, Ofelia Valmocina for Best Station Website Designer, Sofia Frederique Penuliar for Rising Star and Adrian Molina for Best Content Creator and People’s Choice Content Creator.

Tiger Radio only made it to the finals in the Station of the Year and People’s Choice Station categories.

Last year, Tiger Radio obtained the following top prizes: Station of the Year, Best Content/Program Director, Best Talk Presenter, Best Content Creator, Best Sports Presenter and Best Social Media Execution.

Entries were judged by a panel of media practitioners from different countries.

Established in 2023 by Australian media business Ramp Media, the ISBC recognizes students’ talents in the field of radio broadcasting, podcasting, e-sports and digital media. F
