Two Thomasian lawyers among top 20 Bar passers this year

TWO UST Faculty of Civil Law graduates made it to the top 20 at the 2024 Bar examinations, the Supreme Court announced on Friday, Dec. 13.

Andrew Gil Ambray, who finished his juris doctorate degree in UST and was the batch valedictorian in 2024, ranked 12th with a rating of 83.4450%.

Pierre Angelo II Reque, also a Civil Law graduate from batch 2024, landed on the 20th spot with a  score of 82.7950%.

Arambay completed his bachelor’s degree in Accountancy at De La Salle University in 2019. He serves as an underbar associate of DivinaLaw, which is headed by Civil Law dean Nilo Divina.

Meanwhile, Reque finished his Accounting degree in UST in 2019. He also obtained the Rector’s Award for Academic Excellence.

UST emerged as the fourth-top performing school with an 88.72% passing rate, producing a total of 139 lawyers out of 173 examinees. This is higher than last year’s 85.25% passing rate.

Ateneo de Manila University had the highest passing rate with 96.02% or 169 out of 173 examinees. It was followed by the University of the Philippines (90.51%) and San Beda University (89.73%). UST outperformed the University of San Carlos, which obtained a 79.05% passing rate.

Kyle Christian Tutor of the University of the Philippines (UP) topped this year’s Bar exams with a score of 85.77%. He was followed by Maria Christina Aniceto of Ateneo de Manila University (85.54%), Gerald Roxas of Angeles University Foundation School of Law (84.35%), John Philippe Chua of UP (84.28%) and Jet Ryan of UP (84.2650%).

The Supreme Court adjusted the 2024 Bar examinations to 74% from 75% to allow more applicants to pass, Associate Justice Mario Lopez said.

Out of 10,490 examinees, a total of 3,962 or 37.84% passed the Bar exams this year, higher than last year’s 36.67%. F
