Solidaridad, the bookstore in Manila owned by the late National Artist and Thomasian alumnus F. Sionil José has been sold, his eldest son said.
The bookstore, a cultural landmark in Ermita, was sold for less than P35 million, the late National Artist’s eldest son Antonio “Tonet” José told The Flame.
The deal was closed on Tuesday, July 1, but the identity of the buyer has yet to be disclosed.
“Hindi umabot ng 35 (million) — kasama ‘yung mga books, mga furnitures… lahat ng naka-display… puwera ‘yung mga artworks. Hindi kasama,” Tonet said in an interview on Tuesday, July 1.
He said the family was forced to sell the 59-year old book shop because of financial difficulties in maintaining its operations.F – Ma. Alyanna Selda
