AN ARTLETS student activist will assume the highest post in the Central Student Council (CSC) for the academic year 2025-2026 after no candidate ran for the position in the last election.

Legal Management junior Annie Agon, initially the CSC vice president, was declared president of the council by the UST Central Commission on Elections (COMELEC).

“The Commission, in the exercise of its Constitutional body, recognizes the importance of ensuring that the office of the President is filled without any delay,” the Central COMELEC said in a resolution dated Aug. 7.

“The University of Santo Tomas Central Commission on Elections en banc deems is proper and in accordance with the constitution to declare Annie Nicolle C. Agon as the duly elected president,” it added.

In another memorandum, the Central COMELEC said CSC officers must nominate candidates for the remaining vacant vice president and treasurer positions. Nominees must be members of the local student council executive boards. Officers will be elected via a secret ballot presided over by the CSC president.

Agon is a member of the Kabataan Partylist, which represents the youth sector at the House of Representatives. Before running for the vice president post, she was the CSC public relations officer when the council only operated during the later half of the year.

The academic year 2024-2025 began without a CSC following the withdrawal of all the candidates because of the supposed “suppression” faced by student leaders in the University.

The commission held another election for the CSC executive board in the middle of the first semester, where only the secretary and public relations officer positions were filled. F
