FORMER UST legal coordinator and Faculty of Civil Law instructor Elgin Michael Perez passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 3.
He was 44.
UST announced his passing in a Facebook post on the same day, describing him as a dedicated academic staff of the Faculty of Civil Law and a trusted University official.
“We are one with his family and loved ones in this time of grief, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Atty. Elgin for his contributions to UST. Eternal rest grant unto Atty. Perez, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace,” the post read.
The cause of death was not disclosed.
His sister, Erinn Mariel Perez, shared on Facebook that he was a devoted family man and a committed lawyer.
“He was a loving, selfless, and generous husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many. He was a fearless, passionate, and dedicated lawyer, colleague, and professor. He is survived by his wife Nina, and their two daughters. He was a pillar of our family. Words are not enough to express how we feel at his untimely passing,” she said.
The Faculty of Civil Law said Perez would be remembered for his service to the law and the UST community.
“With deep sorrow, we share the news of the passing of Atty. Elgin Michael C. Perez, a beloved professor of the UST Faculty of Civil Law. He will be remembered for his passion for the law and his unwavering commitment to the UST community. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones as they go through this time of loss,” it said.
Perez earned his bachelor’s degree in Legal Management and his law degrees from the University. He had served his alma mater ever since.
His wake will take place at Nacional Chapels & Crematory on G. Araneta Avenue in Quezon City, starting today, Sept. 4.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 9 a.m. at the Santísimo Rosario Parish. F
