
TWO EDUCATORS of the Faculty of Arts and Letters have been elected to the board of trustees of the Philippine Association of Communication Editors (PACE), a non-stock and non-profit organization of communication and media professionals in the country.
Department of Communication Asst. Prof. Faye Abugan and Asst. Prof. Jose Arsenio Salandanan were among the 15 newly elected trustees of PACE after gaining 34 votes and 42 votes, respectively.
Abugan and Salandanan are set to begin their post on Oct. 26 and serve until the same month in 2027 for a two-term stint, as announced by the organization’s Facebook page on Monday, Oct. 13.
Salandanan, a UST communication arts alumnus, has been a trustee of PACE numerous times. He also served as the association’s vice president for Luzon from 2021 to 2023.
He teaches advertising, public relations and integrated marketing communication courses in the communication department.
Abugan, also a communication arts alumna, is a veteran broadcast professor who handles communication-related courses at the University. She is also currently teaching in the University’s Journalism program.
She is the founding head of the University’s broadcasting arm, Tiger Media Network, which has received multiple awards, local and international, under her term as a business manager and assistant director.
Abugan and Salandanan will take their oath on Oct. 25 in the PACE 50th Anniversary Gala Night, Homecoming and Recognition Ceremony at the University of the Philippines Los Baños.
Founded in 1975, PACE is the biggest communication organization in the country. It seeks to review policies and standards for communication education and ethical practice in teaching and media professions. F
