TWO THOMASIAN alumni were among the winners at the 47th Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA), which annually recognizes outstanding work in journalism and communications.

Journalism graduate Frances Mangosing won Best News Coverage for the report “2 PH Ships, 40 Chinese Vessels: Onboard Resupply Mission to Escoda Shoal” published at the Philippine Daily Inquirer. She co-wrote the article with fellow reporter Nestor Corrales.

Mangosing graduated in 2008 with a degree in Journalism. She worked for Inquirer Interactive in 2010 until 2022 and served as a reporter of the company’s print counterpart, the Philippine Daily Inquirer, until 2024 before becoming a freelance journalist.

Pop singer Jamie Rivera, a UST Economics graduate, was awarded Best Music Video for her work “Ningas ng Pag-asa” under ABS-CBN Production. Rivera finished her high school studies at UST in 1982 and completed her degree in Economics under the College of Commerce.

“The awards have been the Church’s way of honoring those who have served God and his people through this gift of mass media,”  Fr. Joselito Buenafe, CMMA Executive Director and Trustees, said.

“Over the years, the CMMA has grown into both a cherished tradition and a prestigious event, supported by many of the country’s most respected names, institutions in televisions, radios, print, advertising, music, and the Internet, as well as by students and educators from various schools and universities,” he added

CMMA was founded by the late Manila Archbishop Jaime Cardinal Sin in 1978. The awarding ceremony will be held at the Citystate Tower Hotel at Ermita, Manila, on Nov. 19. F
