THE UST Junior High School (JHS) has implemented a three-day health and academic break due to an uptick in cases of flu-like symptoms among its students and faculty.

In a letter addressed to guardians and students, the JHS administration announced that classes from Oct. 7 to 9 would shift to an enriched virtual modality, with teachers encouraged to post learning materials in lieu of online classes.

“In light of the increasing number of students and teachers experiencing flu-like symptoms, colds, and/or cough, our academic unit is implementing a three-day academic and health break,” the letter, dated Oct. 6, read.

“Classes on these days will be conducted in an enriched virtual modality (asynchronous learning) to allow students and teachers to rest, recharge, and recover their physical and mental well-being,” it added.

The academic unit also temporarily halted all submissions of graded assessments, such as performance tasks and online tests to lessen students’ workload.

Only three to four subjects are allowed to be taught on each of the health break days.

For Tuesday, Oct. 7, only lessons on Science, Filipino, Physical Education and Health will be administered.

The following day, Oct. 8, is reserved for Mathematics, Christian Living Education and Music.

Meanwhile, only the subjects English, Araling Panlipunan and Technology and Livelihood Education will be taught on Oct. 9.

The UST JHS also asked parents to seek medical attention once their children start exhibiting flu-like symptoms. These include cold, cough, sore throat, headache, stomachache, fever, vomiting and fatigue. F with reports from Sheridan Joy Delfino
