TWELVE THOMASIANS, including 11 Artlets, emerged as finalists in the International Student Broadcasting Championship 2025 (ISBC).
Of the Thomasian contenders competing in distinct categories, eight are from the Communication department, two are Journalism students, one is from the Creative Writing department and one is from the Faculty of Pharmacy.
They represent various programs that operate under the University’s broadcasting arm, Tiger Media Network, namely UST Tiger Radio and Tiger TV.
From the Department of Journalism, sophomore Naomi Ravago is competing in the Best Newcomer On-Air category, while senior Loise Bantolo is seeking a spot in the Best TV News or Sports Feature category.
The Communication students vying for titles are seniors Julian Felipe for Best Video Execution, Amber Cruz for Best Established Podcast, Mylferd Supnet for Best Talk Presenter, Brianna Valdez for Best Content/ Programme Director and Amara Medrano for People’s Choice Talent category.
Also from the department are juniors Kathleen Vallo competing in the Best Social Media Execution category, John Morales in Best Voiceover and Lhiera Trinidad, also a photographer of The Flame, in Best Podcast Talent.
From the Department of Creative Writing, fourth year student Joseph Earl Quintana is competing for the Best Copywriting Script category.
Kyla Lapeña, the sole contender from the Faculty of Pharmacy is competing for the win in People’s Choice Content Creator.
Ravago said she feels humbled by the recognition, crediting her seniors and the University for the opportunity and her growth.
“This recognition is a testament to everyone who believed in me over the years. I really think that the inspiration [comes from our] seniors and the admins who allowed me and my co-jocks to flourish in the field we are all trying to grow in,” she told The Flame.
According to ISBC, the competition, which covers over 30 categories, serves as a global platform connecting young broadcasters with industry professionals. The judging panel for the 2025 championship comprises media experts from all over the globe.
The winners will be revealed on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025, through the ISBC’s official website. F – N. A.
