
TWO JOURNALISM alumni from UST were honored for their outstanding reporting on local industries at the 18th Bright Leaf Agriculture Journalism Awards on Thursday, Nov. 6.
Anna Felicia Bajo from GMA News Online and Jasper Arcalas of The Philippine Star claimed winning prizes in their respective categories.
Bajo, who graduated in 2015, received the Best Online Story prize, along with her co-author, John Ted Cordero.
In their winning in-depth report titled “For Better or Worse,” Bajo and Cordero discussed the challenges faced by farmers in the country after five years of the Rice Tariffication Law.
Arcalas, a UST journalism instructor and 2016 graduate, reaped the Best Agricultural News Story at the national level.
In his two-part news report titled “Rising costs brew bitter mix for coffee consumers, producers,” Arcalas tackled the global rising costs of coffee due to extreme weather conditions and how Filipino consumers and farmers face the price spike.
