FOLLOWING THE turnover of the UST Carpark’s operations to a new company, the space will soon operate under a new rate matrix, which charges P1,000 for overnight parking from the previous price of just P50.

The new price comes with the entry of the FlexIT Mobility Solutions Inc. as the carpark’s operator after the University’s contract with the Selegna Holdings Corp. ended.

“As you notice in the parking rates, we retained it as is. So, [the only] noticeable [change] is the P1,000 overnight parking” Charles Deita, CEO of FlexIT Mobility Solutions Inc., told The Flame.

“But as a transition, we will do some flexibility in terms of the charging. So, right now, the P1,000 [rate], we’re informing them that, although it’s placed there, it’s not yet totally effective because we are doing some adjustments in terms of waiving.”

According to the newly posted matrix, the P1000 overnight parking rate would be charged on top of the regular rates if customers stay within the 2 a.m. to 4 a.m cut-off period.

Entries beyond 6 p.m., which are classified as night parking, are priced at P50 for the first 2 hours.

The matrix’s previous overnight parking rate was set at P50 with P15 for succeeding hours for vehicles that enter from 6 p.m. until 4 a.m.

Deita said the company would still implement the same ordinary and student rates of P40 for the first two hours and four hours, respectively, with an additional P15 charge per succeeding hour.

According to Deita, the finalized price for overnight parking would take effect once the dialogue with the UST Hospital is finished.

Other changes proposed by the company as well as details of the contract would also be discussed with the office, Deita said.

“It depends on the evaluation. In terms of the [contract], since we don’t know yet the outcome because they will undergo [an] assessment [of the carpark]. So, right now, we are still discussing and we’re waiting for final instruction in terms of the terms,” he said.

“So, we [were] just [advised] that we will start operating [at] 12:01 a.m.…And because of course, we don’t know the extent of their evaluation and assessment. Maybe it’s only from there that arrangement in terms of the contract [with the University would come].”

Policies and regulations on exceptions and flexibilities of the P1,000 overnight parking rate would be discussed on Nov. 17 with the UST Facilities Management Office (FMO), he added.

“We will coordinate on how we will implement the P1,000… to ensure that the one who will be benefiting will be those who are eligible,” he said.

“Especially, we would like to address the emergency cases for the hospital, the doctors.”

According to Deita, the decision on whether food establishments will return to the area rests upon the FMO.

In a memorandum dated Oct. 21, UST ordered all stalls and food concessionaires to settle their dues and vacate the area on or before Nov. 15.

Only a few establishments, such as the Cozy Nook and Power Mac, are temporarily still in operation as the parking space is set for rehabilitation.

In an email message, FMO director Fr. Dexter Austria said FlexIT Mobility Solutions Inc. is now the operator of the UST carpark, which was constructed and opened in 2004. F
