THE UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas started deploying cell sites to facilitate better cellular network connections across various areas of the campus on Wednesday, Dec. 17, two days before  Paskuhan.

The cell sites were previously used by the University to strengthen network coverage during University-wide events, such as the UAAP season 88 opening ceremonies, Facilities Management Office chief Fr. Dexter Austria, O.P. said.

“They are used to quickly provide network coverage in areas with high demand, like the Agape and Paskuhan. We’ve been in touch with them for some time during university events,” Austria told The Flame.

According to Austria, several network cell sites are stationed across the campus. DITO’s is located near the University’s beach volleyball area, while Globe will deploy its “cell on wheels” at the Botanical Garden. Meanwhile, SMART is currently augmenting its network capacity in the Buenaventura Parades, O.P. building.

The cell sites and their network coverage would be temporary and would depend on the demand and the number of people using the services, Austria said.

The sites were also used during last year’s Paskuhan, which drew over 42,000 attendees. F
