
THE UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas rose to fourth place among Philippine schools with the most research publications in Scopus for 2025, sustaining its multi-year growth in indexed works.
UST logged 467 studies in the Scopus database, up from 448 the previous year when it ranked fifth, the Global Health Focus (GHF) University Excellence announced.
“These are the final 17 top research universities of the Philippines in 2025. They all produced 100 and above Scopus research documents,” GFH University Excellence chief scientific officer Don Prisno said in a Facebook post on Thursday, Feb. 12.
UST has maintained an upward trend in its contributions to Scopus since 2019.
The España University published 227 works in 2019, 287 in 2020, 337 in 2021, 361 in 2022 and 405 in 2023.
A total of 17 Philippine universities were lauded for yielding over 100 studies in the international database, which covers various scientific disciplines.
The University of the Philippines emerged as the most research-productive educational institution in the country, tallying 2,579 publications this year, down from 2,805 in 2024.
It is followed by De La Salle University and Mapua University, which also saw decreases in their research productivity after recording 875 (from 884) and 544 (from 849) publications, respectively.
Ateneo de Manila University slipped to fifth place this year, trailing UST with 464 (from 472) studies, while Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology remained sixth with 357 works (from 320).
All institutions that made it to the top six were ranked in the recent 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.

National University placed seventh as its research publications reached 303, followed by Caraga State University with 302. Also among the top 10 were Cebu Technological University, which had 184 works and Polytechnic University of the Philippines, with 155.
The following institutions also recorded over 100 publications: Far Eastern University (148), Bulacan State University (134), Central Luzon State University (124), Visayas State University (115), Mindanao State University-Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography (108), Adamson University and Batangas University (both 107).
