THE FACULTY of Arts and Letters (AB) Men’s Volleyball Team secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the Thomasian Goodwill Games after dispatching the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, 25-20 and 25-15, at the P. Noval Court Wednesday.
Medicine led early in the first set before AB managed to steal the game with a 5-point advantage, 18-13.
Attacks and a service ace from AB team captain Russel Wilfred Estrada allowed the Dapitan-based squad to maintain its lead, 22-18.
Both teams improved on their defense during the second frame, resulting to four deadlocks.
AB pulled ahead with a 10-point lead, 24-14, before finishing off Medicine and remaining undefeated in its bracket.
AB team coach John David Subiere said he took a different approach in training his players.
“[T]alagang pinag-bonding ko lang sila. Hindi kami masyado nagti-training ng plays, noong mga kailangan gawin sa court,” Subiere said. “Kailangan ko kasi sa kanila maging magkakilala sila ng ugali nila. Kailangan [ng] ugali sa court.” F
