IN A THRILLING showdown at their home court, the UST Growling Tigresses secured a 19-point victory over the Adamson Lady Falcons, 84-65, improving their record to 2-0 during the first round of the UAAP Season 86 women’s basketball.
It was a close fight during the first quarter, with tigress Reynalyn Ferrer throwing a buzzer-beater three to tie the score at 19-all.
However, the Growling Tigresses seized control in the second frame as Rocel Dionisio and Brigette Santos led the Espana-based squad. The first half ended with UST securing a narrow four-point lead, 44-40.
As the second half commenced, UST unleashed a barrage of three-pointers, courtesy of Tacky Tacatac and rookie Jane Pastrana. The Growling Tigresses extended the lead to 15 points, 66-51.
Pastrana and Tacatac maintained their momentum in the decisive fourth quarter by burying crucial shots and securing a convincing 84-65 triumph against the San Marcelino team.
Pastrana contributed a remarkable 28 points, two rebounds and four assists. Ferrer and Tacatac also played crucial roles, each chipping in 12 points.
Lady Falcons Elaine Etang and Cheska Apag led their squad with 13 points apiece.
With their flawless 2-0 record intact, the Growling Tigresses are setting their sights on extending their winning streak as they face off against the DLSU Lady Archers on Sunday, October 8, at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion. F
