THE UST Lady Booters’ UAAP Season 86 campaign came to a close after a 0-3 defeat in the hands of the UP Fighting Maroons at the UP Diliman Football Field on Saturday.
This marks the second consecutive season UST finished last in the five-team tournament.
UST had difficulty controlling possession from the start. UP capitalized early, with midfielder Kam Mangrobang evading UST goalkeeper Lizlie Garcia in the 14th minute to open the scoring, 1-0.
The Lady Booters attempted to respond quickly, with midfielder Karylle Pinili creating a promising opportunity in the 22nd minute. However, the attack ultimately fell short.
Miscommunication on UST’s part proved costly as UP capitalized on this opportunity to score. UP midfielder Aurea Reaso converted a goal in first-half stoppage time, sending the Fighting Maroons into halftime with a comfortable 2-0 advantage.
The second half continued in a similar vein as the Fighting Maroons showed a structured offense-defense pattern. In the 47th minute, a strong UP defense blocked UST forward Christy Logastua’s attempt to pull a goal.
A head-to-head collision between UST defender Erica Mosico and UP forward Isabella Dumada-og briefly halted the game.
Upon resuming play, UP sealed its victory through another goal from Reaso via a free-kick in the 83rd minute, 3-0.
The España-based squad ended the season with three points, while UP secured a podium finish for the second year running. F
