THE TELETIGERS Esports Club (UST TGR) claimed their first victory in the first-ever UAAP Mobile Legends: Bang Bang esports tournament on Aug. 17, Saturday.
UST TGR defeated the UE Zenith Warriors in a 2-0 beatdown to get three points in the group stage at Areté, Ateneo de Manila University.
UST struck the opening blow as jungler Wayne Valentino scored the first kill with Ling after UE’s early invasion on the red buff, 1-0.
The España-based squad advanced on all fronts with an 8-2 blitz, breaking through the Recto squad’s inhibitor turret to lead, 10-4.
Warrior John Bartolo’s Grock failed to hold off a 2v1 situation, enabling Teletigers to secure game one with a 14-7 win.
Using Zhask, mid laner Angel Saliluan was named MVP of the first game with three kills, one death, and 11 assists.
In the second match, Teletiger Benjamin Lukban’s Karrie had two staight kills in an early top lane skirmish to get a 5-2 lead.
The four-man push at the bottom lane led by Teletigers Arjohn Roxas, Saliluan, Benjamin Lukban and Rammuel Belga, threw off the Warriors rotation to take down the middle tower.
After losing the first Lord clash, UE attempted to contest the second Lord but were quickly caught off guard by four straight UST kills, 17-9. Valentino sealed the last two kills and eventually the game, 19-9.
Gold laner Lukban led UST to a game two win with Karris, delivering seven kills, one death, and nine assists.
“With the way they were trained I’m happy they were comfortable in the setup despite some of them being on-stage for the first time,” Teletigers’ MLBB head coach Theo Ignacio told The Flame.
“Seeing what we’ll achieve in the end with all of our effort… [W]e’ll gun for gold,” Ignacio added.
The Teletigers aim to secure their second win on Aug. 18 as they take on the Adamson Falcons at the same venue. F – Nicole Atuan with reports from Shayne Lee Andreas Macaraeg
