DESPITE SCORING their first goal of the season, the UST Lady Booters settled for a draw against the UP Fighting Maroons, 1-1, to close the first round of the UAAP Season 87 women’s football tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the UP Diliman Football Stadium.
UP secured the third spot with four points, while UST stayed at the bottom of the standings with one point.
Lady Booter midfielder Judy Mae Prado fired at the back of the net in the 57th minute to force a draw, earning her team’s first point in the tournament.
The match began with UP going aggressive early, but UST’s defense stood strong with goalkeeper Lizlie Garcia and defender Cindy Bennett making crucial stops.
In the 36th minute, however, Fighting Maroon forward Anya Fuentes broke through from the left side to give her team a 1-0 lead.
Looking to take the lead, UST defender Jearfelyn Ramos attempted a shot in the 70th minute. But UP forward Isalyn Tundag was there to deny the effort and regain momentum late in the second half.
The schedule for Round 2 is yet to be released. F
