THE UST Golden Booters kicked off the second round of UAAP Season 87 men’s football with a 2-1 victory over the DLSU Green Booters on Sunday, Nov. 3, at the UP Football Pitch.
Looking to avenge their loss in the first round, UST rookie striker Renan Ballespin nailed a clutch goal from a pinpoint assist of Andrew Ramos in the 87th minute to seal the victory.
With the win, UST improved to a 4-3 win-loss slate with 12 points. Meanwhile, DLSU slipped to a 2-4 record with seven points.
The Green Booters seized control early in the game after Fernando Suarez converted his free kick in the 21st minute, 1-0.
Despite UST winger Chris Valderama’s offensive efforts, multiple unforced errors kept his team on the back foot in the first half.
However, Golden Booter center-back Jarred Regis found the back of the net just a couple minutes into the second half to equalize the score, 1-all.
Found at a 1-all deadlock, both teams struggled to find the back of the net as the defenses stood their ground.
The Golden Booters aim to stay in the winning column when they face the Adamson Soaring Falcons on Nov. 10, Sunday, at the same venue. F – Rishna Joy Maglinao
