THE UST Department of Psychology took home the crown in the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe’s dance competition titled “REBIRTH: Danscene XXXV,” at the Medicine Auditorium on Friday, Nov. 8.

Dance group Archetypes’ folk-themed performance, which featured traditional Filipino clothes baro’t saya, earned the top spot on the podium in the group classification.

“My team’s hard work paid off… we were able to do the best that we could to get the awards that we can and try to express the piece that we have in mind,” Archetypes captain Jian Sebastian told The Flame.

“I’m really proud of my team for pushing through… and I just feel very thankful for the support of the Psychology community, our families, and our friends,” she added.

The Faculty of Engineering Dance Troupe placed second with its art-centric approach, which was followed by OneShade of the College of Fine Arts and Design with its OPM-inspired number.

Meanwhile, the College of Architecture Dance Troupe AD-TEAM topped the duo category with an interpretative dance about the beginning of the earth.

Twinmotion, also from the College of Architecture, secured the second spot in the pairings. College of Commerce Dance Troupe THC finished third after grooving to Gotye’s popular hit “Somebody That I Used to Know.”

In the solo category, College of Nursing student Phranz Arteche rose to the top with a fitting rendition of “The Phoenix” by Fall Out Boy.

Faculty of Engineering students Russel Versoza and Jonathan Garcia followed suit in the individual bracket, placing second and third, respectively.

This year marks the 35th edition of Danscene, its first onsite contest since the COVID-19 pandemic. F – Sophia Carmela dela Cuesta
