THOMASIAN ATHLETES must first lead by example before demanding change from the world, the University’s athletics director and regent said.
In his homily during the mass for student-athletes, UST Institute of Physical Education and Athletics (IPEA) director and regent Fr. Rodel Cansancio, O.P. said UST athletes must begin within themselves the change that they want to see in others.
“Be the change that you want to see in society. It’s applicable not only in your lives as a citizen in this country but also as an athlete, ” Cansancio said at the Santisimo Rosario Parish on Friday, Sept. 12.
The Dominican priest said the athletes must reflect and humble themselves first if they want change to happen, emphasizing the importance of self-reflection before judging others.
“If you want to correct other people, be sure that you know yourself better and you know the taste of humility,” Cansancio said.
The mass signaled the traditional UST Kickoff Party, a formal send-off for Thomasian athletes who will compete in the upcoming UAAP Season 88.
The University will host the season that will begin on Friday, Sept. 19, with a grand UAAP opening ceremony that will showcase Thomasian traditions. F
