THE UST Junior Golden Tigresses cruised to their first victory in the UAAP Season 88 girls’ volleyball tournament with a dominant 25-10, 25-6, 25-18 sweep of the Ateneo Blue Eagles on Sunday, Sept. 28, at the Ateneo Blue Eagle Gym.
Erin Sotto led the Junior Tigresses with 10 points built on seven attacks, one block, and two service aces, while Kim Rubin backed her up with nine markers.
Rubin set the tone early exploding for three kills and four aces as UST overwhelmed Ateneo in the opening set, 25-10.
The España-based carried its momentum into the second frame, building a lead that stretched to as many as 19 points in a lopsided 25-6 rout.
The Blue Eagles fought back in the third frame with a 12-3 run to cut UST’s deficit by three, 15-12.
But UST weathered the rally, keeping control on their slim advantage throughout the third set to sweep the home team, 25-18.
Ateneo skipper Jelena Dait finished with four points in the loss.
The Tigresses look to sustain their momentum when they face last season’s runner up Adamson University Lady Baby Falcons on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the Paco Arena. F
