UST, Adamson battle to 2-2 draw in a late goal thriller

THE UST Golden Booters and the Adamson Soaring Falcons settled for a 2-2 stalemate in the UAAP Season 88 men’s football tournament at the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub Football Field on Thursday, Sept. 25.

After a cagey midfield battle in the opening minutes, UST broke the deadlock in the 26th minute when Chris Valderama pounced on a defensive lapse and slotted the ball past the Adamson keeper for a 1-0 lead.

The Soaring Falcons clawed back in the second half, with Cameroonian winger Golike Danu Doko converting a penalty kick to tie the match, 1-all. .

Adamson then surged ahead in the 62nd minute, as substitute Carl Franz Mahimay fired a tight-angle strike just outside the box, 2-1.

But UST answered quickly, with Jared Reggis heading home the equalizer in the 68th minute, after his header slipped through the hands of Adamson goalkeeper Sean Chua.

With the remaining minutes, both teams failed to get past multiple scoring opportunities on both ends.

The Golden Booters will next face the Ateneo Blue Eagles on Thursday, Oct. 2, at the same venue. F
