
THE UST Lady Booters’ second-half surge fell short as they bowed to last year’s silver medalists DLSU Lady Booters, 2-1, in the UAAP Season 88 women’s football tournament on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub in Cavite.
Ivy Tapiz ignited UST’s fightback in the 65th minute, drilling in a rebound after DLSU’s keeper fumbled a catch.
The España-based squad pressed harder in the final 25 minutes, but struggled to break through the Taft team’s disciplined backline.
In the dying minutes, UST’s Christy Logastua fired one from close range, only for the DLSU keeper to deflect the potential equalizer.
DLSU rookie Jodie Banzon opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a strike that deflected off the post.
A handball in the 35th minute committed by UST’s Jerfelyn Ramos gave DLSU a chance to double the lead from the spot, but Maria Layacan’s penalty rattled off the woodwork.
Last season’s Rookie of the Year Dani Tanjangco made it 2-0 advantage in the 56th minute with a header off a Banzon cross.
UST will try to bounce back against the defending champions FEU Lady Tamaraws on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the UP Diliman Football Stadium. F
