
THE UST Golden Booters absorbed their first defeat in the UAAP Season 88 men’s football tournament, bowing to last season’s silver medalists Ateneo Blue Eagles, 2-1, on Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub in Cavite.
UST slipped to a 1-1-1 win-draw-loss record, while Ateneo improved to 2-1-0.
The Katipunan squad drew first blood in the 29th minute after Ghanaian forward Kofi Agyei slotted in the opening goal, 1-0.
Ateneo doubled its advantage early in the second half, with last season’s top scorer Dov Cariño setting up Agyei to extend the lead at the 46th minute, 2-0.
Archie Belluga scored UST’s lone goal off a rebound shot from his missed penalty kick at the 95th minute, 2-1.
The Golden Booters will aim to bounce back when they take on the FEU Tamaraws on Saturday, Oct. 5, at the UP Diliman Football Stadium. F
