THE UST Golden Tigresses are headed to the Shakey’s Super League Pre-season Unity Cup semifinals after romping the Ateneo Blue Eagles via sweep, 25-16, 25-21, 25-21, on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the San Andres Gym in Malate, Manila.
Lefty opposite spiker Reg Jurado was named player of the game, leading the Tigresses with 13 points built on 12 attacks and a block.
“[We’ll] just play our game, relax, and ask for guidance from the Lord,” Jurado said postgame.
The Tigresses pounced right out of the gates as they clinched the opening set through a service ace from Xyza Gula, 25-16.
Jurado caught fire in the next set, scoring seven of her total markers in the frame alone to give UST a two-set advantage over Ateneo, 25-21.
Ateneo were down by as much as five points in the third set, 13-8, but brought the lead back down to one behind an attack from Zel Tsunashima, 21-20.
The España squad, however, remained unfazed as a block from Cassie Carballo brought out a set point and a kill from Blessing Unekwe sealed Ateneo’s fate.
UST will be awaiting the result between the Adamson Lady Falcons and the Benilde Lady Blazers to determine the semifinals matchup. F
