Tigresses open Round 2 with 44-point beatdown of Lady Archers

THE UST Growling Tigresses remained unscathed in the UAAP Season 88 women’s basketball tournament as they began the second round with a dominant victory against the DLSU Lady Archers, 94-50, on Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Mall of Asia Arena.

UST commanded the paint, outscoring DLSU 50-18 inside for its eight consecutive victory.

Agatha Bron dropped 15 points and five rebounds for the España women, while foreign student-athlete Oma Onianwa contributed 12 markers and 14 boards.

A layup from Karylle Sierba in transition gave the España squad a double-digit cushion in the opening minutes, 16-6.

Brigette Santos then converted a bucket to extend the Tigresses’ lead to 28-15 to close the first frame.

The offensive onslaught continued in the second salvo, as a buzzer-beating three from rookie Barby Dajao gave UST all the momentum entering halftime, 53-24.


DLSU started the second half strong, as a basket from Kyla Go capped off a 9-0 run to trim her team’s deficit, 60-35.

Inside baskets from Onianwa and Agatha Bron reclaimed UST’s momentum to close the third period, 75-38.

The Tigresses stayed ahead in the fourth quarter, as Breana Pineda hit a triple to win the game.

Dajao and CJ Maglupay added 11 points apiece for UST.

For DLSU, Go scored 17 markers in the losing effort.

The Tigresses will look to extend their winning ways when they face the Adamson Lady Falcons on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the same venue. F
