THE UST Lady Booters closed their UAAP Season 88 women’s football campaign with a morale-boosting 1-0 victory over the DLSU Lady Booters on Saturday, Nov. 8, at the UP Diliman Football Field.

After weathering DLSU’s early pressure, Nikah Asilo finished off a pinpoint cross from Samantha Asilo in the 36th minute to give UST the win.

Last season’s bronze medalists, however, missed out on the podium with a 2-3-3 win-loss-draw record for nine points.

Meanwhile, the Ateneo Blue Eagles secured their first bronze finish since Season 79 after ending the season with a 3-2-3 win-loss-draw record and 11 points.

The Taft-based squad tried to equalize the score before halftime as captain Lourdes Layacan slipped past four defenders, but her shot went just wide.

UST keeper Christine Orion was instrumental on goal as DLSU continued to pile on the pressure from forwards Chenny Dañoso and Layacan in the second half.

Despite being outshot 23-6, UST’s solid defense preserved its lone advantage until the final whistle.

Despite losing the game, DLSU’s 12 points in the standings allowed them to secure a finals berth against the undefeated FEU Tamaraws on Saturday, Nov. 15, at the same venue. F
