UST Tracksters rule athletics campaign opener across all divisions

THE UST Tracksters set the pace on Day 1 of the UAAP Season 88 Athletics Championships, taking the lead in both the seniors’ and juniors’ divisions on Thursday, Nov. 6, at the New Clark City Athletics Stadium in Tarlac.

UST claimed two golds, one silver and one bronze in the men’s division for 63 points, while also bagging two golds and one silver to lead the women’s side for 80 points.

Pole vaulter Hokkett Delos Santos topped the men’s crossbar with a 4.50-meter leap to lead a UST podium sweep, followed by Mejen Sumbongan (4.30m) and Sean Harry Narag (4.20m).

Azeneth Serat anchored the women’s team, defending her 5,000m race walk title and breaking a 16-year-old UAAP record with 26:04.63.

Lianne Pama added gold in the 100m (11.82s), while Jeanne Arnibal took silver in the high jump (1.60m).

Meanwhile, the UST Junior Tracksters also collected two golds, one silver and two bronze medals in the boys’ division, along with two golds and three bronzes in the girls’ side.

Jayvee Ceballos shattered a 13-year-old record in the boys’ hammer throw (43.22m), as Tayshaun Donasco (40.35m) settled for a bronze-finish.

Novie Jay Masangcap then snatched the 800m event (1:53.20), narrowly edging UE’s Anthony Cariaso (1:53.25).

Prince Cuyos earned silver in the 100m (10.88s), while Charles Alcantara and Gray Cloud Garcia added podium finishes in the triple jump (14.14m) pole vault (3.55m), respectively.

The girls’ division mirrored UST’s dominance as Liana Ascan struck gold in the 800m (2:19.34), with Shaina Igcas taking bronze (2:30.84).

Franceine Jhobie Rosario set a UAAP record in the 100m (11.97s), while Lhynette Libranda (12.48s) and Yih Fernandez (shot put, 9.50m) secured bronze medals. F
