THE GOLDEN BOOTERS ended their eliminations on a whimper via a 4-0 loss by the FEU Tamaraws in the UAAP Season 88 Men’s Football tournament at the UP Diliman Football Field on Thursday, Jan. 29.
Despite incurring back-to-back losses, UST closed their campaign on third seed and a 5-3-4 record.
The match marked the second time the Golden Booters were held goalless in the season, the first instance during a 0-0 draw vs Adamson early in the second round.
Meanwhile, FEU ended the eliminations at second spot with a 8-2-2 slate and a twice-to-beat advantage.
The Morayta squad dominated the entire match courtesy of Karl Absalon’s brace in the 14th and 54th minutes. In the 37th minute, UP scored through Andre Yu’s goal.
Theo Libarnes sealed the deal in the 68th minute to make it 4-0.
Meanwhile, the España brigade were unable to retaliate against FEU’s impenetrable defense and goalkeeper Jetrick Fabrigas’ stellar play.
UST will aim to regroup as they face FEU once again in their upcoming semifinals bout next month. F
