BARING THEIR fangs at home, the UST Golden Tigresses ravaged the winless UE Lady Warriors via sweep, 25-11, 25-14, 25-14, in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion on Saturday, Feb. 28.

The Tigresses won back-to-back games to move to a 2-2 record, while the Lady Warriors remained at the bottom of the standings with a 0-4 slate.

Playing on home turf, UST opened the match with a dominant 10-2 run as Angge Poyos went through the block.

Sophomore Marga Altea scored on a quick hit, followed by a block at the net to give the Tigresses a 25-11 first set win.

It was a similar flow of events in the second frame as UST jumped to another 10-2 advantage.

Lady Warrior Khy Cepada tried to get hot midway through the frame, converting a hit to cut their deficit to 17-12.

The España women stayed in control with a 6-2 blitz, finished off by an empathic off-the-block hit and a denial from lefty opposite spiker Reg Jurado, 25-14.

On the verge of a sweep, the Tigresses looked even more superior, with rookie Avril Bron nailing a service ace for an 11-1 cushion.

UST continued biting down on UE, as Cepada’s attack fell short to end the match.

After dropping its first two games, UST made sure to secure two sweeps in a row.

Poyos led the scoring for UST with 11 points on eight attacks, two blocks and a service ace. Meanwhile, graduating Jonna Perdido had her best game so far with five kills, two blocks and three aces.

No player scored in double-digits for the Recto squad, as Cepada only had nine points off of eight attacks and an ace.

The Tigresses will seek to remain in the win column when they face the Adamson Lady Falcons on Sunday, March 7, at the SMART Araneta Coliseum. F
