REIGNING UAAP Season 88 girls’ volleyball Most Valuable Player Diza “Bambam” Berayo is headed to España, as the former NU-Nazareth star officially committed to the UST Golden Tigresses for her collegiate stint.
Fresh off leading the Lady Bullpups to the Palarong Pambansa championship, Berayo announced her commitment in a video interview shortly after capturing the national crown.
“I will be suiting up with the (UST) Golden Tigresses,” she said in a video interview in Agusan Del Sur on May 30.
The highly touted wing spiker will arrive in España with a championship pedigree, having collected two championships and one silver medal in the UAAP juniors’ division.
In her final season with the Lady Bullpups, Berayo dominated the league en route to claiming both the Most Valuable Player and Best Outside Spiker honors. She finished with 199 points and posted an attacking efficiency of 36.09%.
Beyond the local scene, the incoming UST rookie has also represented the Philippines in the Asian Youth Games and helped the team secure a fourth-place finish.
Her arrival provides a timely boost for the Golden Tigresses, who are in transition on the wings, with veteran hitters Jonna Perdido and Xyza Gula moving on to the professional level.
The 18-year-old outside hitter will be eligible for Season 89 alongside fellow Best Outside Spiker and UST girls volleyball team captain Kimberly Rubin. F
