DUKHA III TWELVE ARTLETS dominated the 34th Gawad Ustetika while two renowned Artlet alumni were awarded the lifetime achievement award in the annual Thomasian literary competition hosted by The Varsitarian. Journalism alumnus Benjamin Joshua Gutierrez bagged the prestigious Rector’s Literary Award for his entry, "Ang Tatlong Ulo ng Sitio Pag-Asa," which also won first place for Katha. “Nakita kong nag-[message] sa'kin si Ma’am Jing (Prof. Emeritus Cristina Pantoja-Hidalgo) sa [Facebook]; doon ko nalaman na nanalo ako. ARUCAN TEN ARTLETS again proved that the Faculty of Arts and Letters is home to University of Santo Tomas’ best literary writers as they took home 15 out of 22 awards bestowed in this year’s Gawad Ustetika. Literature student Arielle Abrigo received the Rector’s Literary Award, the highest award in the contest, for her poem collection LAKÁSA, which also won first place in the poetry category. “[P]robably to feel happy is an understatement. SEVENTEEN ARTLETS dominated this year's Gawad Ustetika with 27 out of 35 awards, once again proving that the Faculty of Arts and Letters is home to the University of Santo Tomas' (UST) best literary writers. Winning big was Literature senior Raymond Gold Padao who received the Rector’s Literary Award—the highest literary award given in the contest—for his work Trinkets, Tools, and Toys that topped the Essay category. The Rector’s Literary Award is given to a participant whose works “envision the Christian values and the Catholic vision of the University.” Padao’s other entry, Sirang Orasan at Iba Pang Tula, also placed second in Tula category. ARTLETS ONCE again proved that the Faculty of Arts and Letters (AB) is home to the University's best literary writers after bagging 17 out of 30 awards in the recently concluded 31st Gawad Ustetika. Winning big was Literature junior George Deoso who walked away with two first place awards for Poems in Praise of the Matriarch and Ang Watak-Watak na Salinlahi ni Godot: Mga Tula under the Poem and Tula categories, respectively.
