Thomasians told to hone their gifts and talents, participate in campus activities

News
by AUBREY SHANE LIM THE UNIVERSITY’S research chief urged Thomasians to hone their gifts and talents, likening them to a treasure that would be lost if not taken care of.  UST Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Rev. Fr. Jannel N. Abogado, O.P. compared learning to childbirth, saying failure to cultivate one’s talents is similar to the experience of loss after a miscarriage. “If the baby is not delivered at all, there is the experience of loss. Similarly, if you do not cultivate your gifts and talents with the opportunities that you have, then it is likely that you will not be able to give birth to them,” Abogado said during his homily during the Homecoming Walk of sophomores and juniors on Tuesday, August 23.  “We need to make an effort to cultivate and improve [one’s ...

by CZERIZHA KAIZEL S. ADZUARA At last, home calls. The soles of my feet will stroke the grounds walked by saints and heroes alike.   At last, my arms will sway and welcome  the warm bodies that once were just in photographs.   I lament the half of my college years  perched upon a stool; my worn-out eyes  locked in mere cyber movements.   The pang of pain from being unmoved. One twist and you would hear my bones  plead for a gentle stretch.    The sinews in my neck were stiff as my longing  for home: that cradle of moving bodies and its soft yellow lights at dusk.    For two years, the glow of home  was replaced by a lampshade.   For two years, the long stride upon brick  pavements was suc...

Thomasians warned against ‘fake’ happiness

News
By NILLICENT BAUTISTA A UNIVERSITY official called on Thomasians to be careful of those who spread ‘fake’ treasure and happiness and to stand by the truth that leads to God. In his homily for the second mass of the Homecoming Walk on Tuesday, August 23, Vice-Rector for Religious Affairs Rev. Fr. Pablo T. Tiong, O. P. urged juniors and sophomores not to be "misled by the world." “Let us be careful of those who attract attention to this and that. Saying that, that is the way of happiness. That’s the treasure, this is the treasure,” Tiong said during the mass, which was held at the UST Quadricentennial Pavillion. “Let us not be misled by the world. This world preaches about fake treasure. This gives happiness, fake happiness,” he added. Tiong told Thomasians to stick to the...

Juniors, sophomores, told to treasure their stay in UST, nurture relationship with God

By KAREN RENEE NOGOY A UNIVERSITY official encouraged Thomasian juniors and sophomores to cherish their stay in UST and to value its “treasures” while nurturing their relationship with God. UST Vice-Rector for Finance Rev. Fr. Roberto L. Luanzon, Jr. O.P. said the University, which has been in existence for 411 years, has treasures waiting to be uncovered by its students.  “You will always cherish some of the physical structures of building here… the events and activities that you’re going to have, especially this one, and the people around us, not only the professors, [but also the] support staff, your classmates, and everyone here, we will give them importance because they are part of our life,” Luanzon said during his homily for the first mass of the Homecoming Walk held Tu...
