By JANYN MARIELLA MONTEALEGRE A SOCIOLOGY professor from the Faculty of Arts and Letters is again heading the Philippine Sociological Society (PSS). Assoc. Prof. Clarence Batan, who will serve as the organization’s president from January to December 2018, said he wants to address the problem on Filipinos’ understanding of the concept and practice of justice in the country. “[The problem] challenges our sociologic discipline in making sense of how social things become just for others, and unjust, often, for the majority,” Batan said in his opening remarks during PSS’ annual conference held at the University of the Philippines (UP)-Cebu on Oct. 7.
