THE UST Growling Tigers continue to fortify their roster ahead of UAAP Season 89 as they secured the commitment of NCAA Division 1 talent Landyn Jumawan, a team insider confirmed to The Flame.
The 22-year-old guard previously played for the Northwestern State University (NSU) Demons and is expected to have a one-and-done season for UST.
As an NSU senior, Jumawan averaged 4.6 points, two rebounds and 0.8 assists across 30 games, highlighted by a 13-point performance off the bench in a victory against the New Orleans Privateers.
Prior to playing D1 hoops for the Illinois-based institution, Jumawan also spent his early college years at Lee College in Texas and had a decorated high-school career at Leilehua High School in Hawaii, earning conference player of the year honors as a sophomore.
Standing at 6-foot-4, Jumawan brings size and shooting to the Tigers’ backcourt, headlined by NSAC Finals MVP Mark Llemit and former Tiger Cubs standout Kirk Cañete.
Meanwhile, former Tiger Cub Dylan Despi is set for a possible return to España after one season with the UE Red Warriors.
Despite seeing limited action with the Recto-squad, the 6-foot-1 guard showed flashes of offensive prowess, highlighted by a 17-point performance against the Tigers in a second round loss.
If he returns to UST, Despi would serve one year of residency before being eligible to play for two years with the Tigers starting in Season 90.
The Tigers finished third during Season 88 with an 8-6 record. The España squad was eliminated in the Final Four by Season 87 champions UP Fighting Maroons. F
