Former AB dean to head Miriam College’s higher education unit

FORMER FACULTY of Arts and Letters dean and English language studies Prof. Marilu Madrunio has been appointed head of Miriam College’s higher education unit.

“The campus – green, spacious, and serene – will be my new second home for the next three years. Thank you, [Miriam College], for the trust (and nomination). I look forward to making a meaningful impact here,” Madrunio said in a Facebook post on Saturday, Aug. 1.

Madrunio held numerous roles in UST for more than 38 years before her retirement this year. She worked as coordinator of the Languages from 1994 to 1995, 1997 to 1999 and 2001 to 2003.

Before her latest appointment, the former AB dean also served as chair of the university-wide committee on English from 2004 to 2005 and as Philosophy chair from 2003 to 2006.

From 2006 to 2012, Madrunio served as chair of the Department of Languages and as a member of the faculty council from 2010 to 2013. She later worked as dean of the UST Graduate School from 2013 to 2022.

She led the Artlets’ transition from onsite classes to online learning modality during the COVID-19 pandemic as the AB dean from 2019 to 2022.

Outside UST, Madrunio is a section chair for Anthropology and Linguistics in the Department of Science and Technology–National Research Council of the Philippines and the chairperson for the Commission on Higher Education’s technical panel for foreign languages. F
