FORMER UST King Tiger Nic Cabañero erupted with a career-high 53 points, 22 rebounds and 10 assists to etch his name in Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) history.
Cabañero’s 53-point outburst surpassed Sarangani’s Jeff Viernes’ 50-point performance on June 3, 2023.
He powered Biñan Tatak Gel Beast Motorcycle Mega Wagi to a 121-79 victory against Pasig City, on Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Alonte Sports Arena.
The outburst marked his first 50-point game in the MPBL, surpassing his UAAP career-high of 33 points in Season 85.
In his collegiate career, Cabañero helped steer UST to consecutive Final Four appearances in UAAP Seasons 87 and 88, with the Growling Tigers finishing fourth in his final collegiate campaign.
Cabañero continues his professional career in the MPBL and is set to represent the Philippines in 3×3 basketball alongside fellow Growling Tiger Koji Buenaflor. F
