THE UST Golden Tigresses’ hopes of entering the semifinals of the V-League Collegiate Cup slimmed as they were swept by the Adamson Lady Falcons, 25-23, 25-17, 25-17, on Sunday, Sept. 20, at the Gameville Central Park.
With the loss, Tigresses fell to a 3-3 win-loss slate to enter a four-way tie with three other teams, while Adamson improved to a 5-1 card to book a semifinals slot.
Both squads opened the match with a nip-and-tuck affair, but a service error from Joy Aseo gave the Tigresses a slim lead entering the technical timeout, 16-15.
The Tigresses continued to stay in striking distance by forcing a 23-all deadlock, but a center line fault from Nina Robles, followed by an attack error from Marga Altea, sealed the first set to the Soaring Falcons, 25-23.
UST’s struggles continued to flow in the second salvo, as back-to-back feints from Eloi Dote and Third Tuddao capitalized a 9-5 Adamson blitz, 20-15.
The San Marcelino squad continued to play their tunes, as a pipe attack from Frances Mordi claimed another set win to push the Tigresses to the brink, 25-17.
The España squad continued to play catch-up in the third frame, as an attack error from Ash Knop ballooned the Tigresses deficit to 10-16.
Despite Reg Jurado sparking a late 3-0 run for the Tigresses in response to six unanswered points from Adamson, back-to-back points from Dote and Fanny Stephen sealed the victory for the Falcons, 25-17.
Aseo led Adamson with 19 points built on 16 attacks and three blocks, while Tuddao added 10 kills.
Angge Poyos paced UST in the loss with 13 markers, while Reg Jurado added eight attacks.
The Tigresses will look to book a ticket to the semifinals in their elimination round closer against the Benilde Lady Blazers on Sunday, Sept. 27, at the same venue. F
